Members of Form 5Ìývolunteered to come in to school on a Saturday to help paint the set and backdrop for their upcoming musical, 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' which the children will perform over two nights in March.
With the guidance of their talented Art, DT, and Drama teachers, these young artists created a vibrant Egyptian set inspired by the work of Austrian visual artist and architect, Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Hundertwasser, known for his commitment to environmental protection, drew inspiration from children's dreams, making him the perfect muse for our stage set, which revolves around the power of dreams.
The work ofÌýHundertwasserÌýis one of the most important contributions in the art history of post-war modernism. As an important member of the international avant-garde in Paris in the 1950s, he developed his unique visual language. One of the central motifs of his colourful picture world is the spiral. All of Form 5 have studied this artist in their weekly Art lessons and have produced their own interpretations of his work.
"Our backdrop has the artistic ideas of over 20 children within it. Many children have been involved in generating further ideas and realising the final painting. Like everything else in this production, the set painting is ‘owned’ by the children in the cast."
The whole Form 5 year groupÌýhas also contributed their ideas and efforts to bring this set to life from their weekly Art lessons where they produced their own interpretation of Hunderwasser's work.
